Repelling Birds Is The Best Way To Remove Them!

While birds might be very nice to look at while you’re on a walk in the park or out on a hike in rougher terrain, when they take up roost around your home they can become a real nuisance. There are many different devices you can buy to get rid of birds, such as wire spokes that prevent birds from landing or sticky strips that make it uncomfortable for birds to perch. But these items can often be unsightly and difficult to install. An easier way to get rid of birds is to use bird repellants that are not only more convenient, but that you can even make yourself right at home!

All you need to make an effective bird repellant at home is something that will move a lot and make a lot of noise; this will be enough to scare away any birds that were looking to make their nest near yours. Aluminum pie tins, aluminum foil and old CD cases all make perfect hangings to scare away any birds in your neighborhood.

Wooden cats or owls are also sold for the specific purpose of scaring birds away from your yard. While seeing the animal might invoke enough fear itself, it’s often the large eyes on these items that make it such a believable predator to the bird. Some stores even sell large balls with very wide eyes placed on them in order to create the same idea.

If you’re more into making solutions for your bird repellant than you are hanging wooden animals or aluminum, you can mix crushed chili peppers with some water. Mix well, allow it to sit in the sun for a few days, and then spray it wherever the birds are roosting. They can’t stand the smell and so they’ll fly to a location where they can no longer smell it – which will be out of your yard!

Birds can be a real hassle when they’ve decided that your home is the best place for them to nest. But with a few things that can be found around your home, you can create an effective bird repellant that will get rid of birds of any kind!

The Four Biggest Pest Birds

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Birds are interesting creatures; and they can be beneficial to have in your yard as they eat many bugs and insects that can pose a threat to your home or that eat up all the blooms in your garden. But there are certain kinds of birds that are more well-known for their irritating habits than they are their interesting ones. When it comes to these pest birds, there are four main types that most commonly cause problems.

While many may think that it’s pigeons that cause the most problems in and around buildings, sparrows and starlings are actually worse, and more common, birds to have around a building. This is because while pigeons are merely messy, they tend to congregate outside of buildings and perch in high areas, while both sparrows and starlings like to come indoors to build their nests. This can cause a lot of noise and mess for those in the buildings, but even bigger dangers include fire hazards when these pest birds decide to nest in vents and drain pipes, which then causes them to clog. Sparrows and starlings also have a lot of uric acid in their droppings, which can cause a lot of structural damage to the building.

Woodpeckers are some of the most interesting birds there are, and they’re some of the most common too. But when they decide that your house makes much better pecking territory than random trees, you’ve got a real problem. Woodpeckers peck for two reasons: to signal other woodpeckers and to find food. Likewise, they’ll peck on your home for two reasons as well. Because the wood used in homes is not as dense as those used on homes, it provides a better acoustic, which can carry better when woodpeckers are trying to signal other birds. Also, if your home is infested with bugs such as termites or ants, woodpeckers may also peck into the sides of your home looking to eat these critters.

Despite the name, Canadian Geese can also be a very big problem in the United States, especially in the northern United States and areas around the Great Lakes. The only problem with Canadian Geese really is that they never come alone. Wherever there are Canadian Geese, there are a lot of them! This leaves a lot of droppings in their path and they can be quite aggressive towards people, especially if they have eggs or young with them that they are protecting.

Although we may often think of pigeons, seagulls and crows as the biggest pest birds that bother us, these four biggest pest birds can actually be much more prevalent and can cause much more damage. The good news is that for each of these pest birds, there are several different ways to prevent and get rid of them. The important thing is that you do, so that they don’t get completely out of control.

How to Get Rid of Your Bird Problem

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Birds are beautiful animals, there’s no doubt. But when you have a large amount of them everywhere, and especially when they’re making your home or building dirty and unsanitary, you need to get rid of them. But how do you get rid of something that has wings, and can just come back? There are a few things you can do to get rid of your bird problem, and they don’t involve toxic chemicals. So you can keep the birds, and the air around you, safe.

If you’re dealing with a large bird population, and if you have particularly pesky birds like pigeons, you might want to think about a wire repellant strip. These strips have sharp needles sticking out of a metallic strip that can be attached to a fence or the side of a building. The sharp wire needles stick straight up so they deter birds from finding them a nice place to perch.

Sometimes birds like to congregate in certain areas because there is food there for them. For this reason, areas such as vineyards and siding that’s already a home for termites are often favorite places of birds. In these areas, placing noisemakers and strips of foil nearby are often enough to keep the birds away.

In rural areas where geese are a problem, there’s not a lot you can do. Geese are protected in many different states, especially during the summer months when they’re nesting. Besides shooing them away, there’s not a lot you can do. Because geese are such beautiful creatures, many people are tempted to feed them when they see geese. Be warned that doing this will only lead to a huge problem on your hands that you’ll need to control. Resist any urge to feed geese and let them make a home for themselves somewhere else.

How to Manage Your Pigeon Problem

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Pigeons are fun when they’re in the park but when they move on to your property they can become a serious nuisance.  They can be noisy, messy and can create structural damage to your home if they move in to the crooks and crannies of your roof or windows.  They are notorious for leaving dirty droppings all over the place and can also carry diseases which may spread to your family or pets.  If you notice a pigeon problem starting on your property, it’s best to nip it in the bud.

The very best way to control pigeons is to exclude them.  That means cleaning out the areas on your home where they have built nests or could potentially start to build them.  Once those areas are cleaned, you can place simple and inexpensive wire mesh or netting around them to prevent the birds from coming back.  The other important thing to remember about controlling pigeons is that if you feed them, they will come.  Make sure you don’t have ready sources of snacks for them around your home or getting rid of them will be an impossible task.

You can try to set up pigeon prevention in your home, or you can call a professional pest control service.  Professionals can take care of your home’s exterior quickly and efficiently with minimal cost simply because they have the experience.  They can also help you spot other problem areas and advise you about additional concerns that they spot while working on your property.

You may be busy with work, school and everything else that your life has going on—but if you continue to put off dealing with your pigeon problem it will only get worse.  You don’t want to risk damage to your property or your family’s health and safety.  For a free Los Angles pest control inspection, give us a call at 888-675-0258 or go to www.accuracypluscalifornia.com.
