Are you worried about termites damaging your home? You have good reason – over time termites can do a lot of structural damage to a home. But termites are not the only insect or bug that thrives on your home. There are several other wood-boring insects that can cause damage.

Let’s take a look at some of the insects that can cause damage:

Wood-boring beetles – Ever spotted small holes on your wooden furniture? You may be dealing with a wood-boring beetle. These small, black beetles ingest protein from wood. Left untreated, they will slowly eat away at your furniture.

Carpenter Bees – Carpenter bees look a bit like a bumble bee with slightly muted yellow bands. These bees chew into unfinished wood. They tunnel into the wood to lay their eggs, then encase the eggs in the saw dust from the chewed wood. The tunneling affects the structural integrity of the wood.

Carpenter Ants – The carpenter ant is easy to spot. These large black ants also tunnel their way into wood. They will attack trees, fences, and wood in the home. Carpenter ants start by tunneling to create a base colony, but quickly move to other wood tunnels to create satellite communities. They don’t eat the wood; just make tunnels that damage the wood structure.

Termites – Termites are one of the most destructive of the wood damaging bugs. Termites often enter the home through the ground and into crawl spaces or basements. Termites can do a lot of damage without the homeowner even being aware that there is an infestation.

A home inspection will uncover any signs of damage from insects or bugs. We’ll recommend ways you can treat the damage and get rid of the bugs for good. For a free inspection, give us a call at 888-675-0258 or go to http://www.accuracypluscalifornia.com/.

Getting Rid of Spiders for Good

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

You know that dealing with spiders is frustrating. These creatures have nooks and crannies that they hide in. Even after you’ve sprayed for them, they still come out again.

The best way to get rid of spiders is to track down their hiding spots and spray those spots directly. This calls for a complete inspection of your home. If you call with a request to exterminate spiders, we know that we have to search to find the source of your problems. Just a cursory examination of your house isn’t enough – we have to actively look for their nesting spots.

Spiders will seek out wood products in your home as hiding spots. The cracks between wooden seams of base boards or hardwood flooring are an ideal entry points for spiders. Closets are often a favorite spot for spiders – they love to hide in clothes and can create webs without detection. Spiders also love to create webs in crawl spaces or basements.

When you see a spider web, quickly sweep the web away. Make note of where you saw the web, during our inspection we’ll look for hiding spots near the web. The secret to getting rid of spiders for good is a careful inspection that finds the smallest cracks and crevices for hiding.
